Your Immune System is Your Best Healer

Your immune system is a better healer than any antibiotic. Antibiotics can only mimic the sorts of things that your body should be doing on it’s own. That’s not to say that antibiotics don’t have their place. However, they shouldn’t be used for every cold or cough. In Norway you see quotations like this, “In fact, most marketing here sends the opposite message: “Penicillin is not a cough medicine,” says the tissue packet on the desk of Norway’s MRSA control director, Dr. Petter Elstrom.”

Wonder what else that can prevent? Well the MRSA control director in Norway has been very successful. So have other nations who have copied their screenings. Maybe we need to remember that antibiotics should only be used when our body can’t do it alone. Read more here.

  1. What’s your opinion on vitamin D? Daddy keeps getting sick and it turns into bronchitis. She tells him to take vitamin D, but thinks he mostly forgets. Mommy takes vitamin D daily and takes extra if she feels a tickle in her throat or a sniffle in her nose. She has not gotten sick, not even from Daddy. She thinks it helps.

  2. My naturopath has been talking more and more about vitamin D. It is possible to overdose on it though so you need to be careful on the dosing–getting enough to build the body stores but not so much that you get symptomatic from too much. Sally Fallon recommends using Cod Liver Oil to get it because the Vitamin A helps with the Vitamin D and you are less likely to overdose on either vitamin. She recommends the Blue Ice Fermented Cod Liver Oil. Dr. Price, in his books recommends .5 teaspoons twice a day and you can go up to 1.5 teaspoons in a day. Under the care of a nutritionist or a doctor you could go higher. I think Vitamin D is very important to our immune system. You may also want to consider the Blue Ice mix of cod liver oil/butter oil which also has Vitamin K2 which can also help boost the immune system.

  3. Oh and adding in fermented foods too. I think you are already doing the Primal Diet so some naturally fermented sauerkraut or kefir (no sugar and raw is best) can be very helpful. Yes–all those little gut bugs that these fermented foods add can help boost the immune system too.
