Health and Illness

Lately I’ve been working on my own health. For the last six months I have been working to eat better. In fact, a couple of weeks ago, I attended the Weston A Price Foundation Conference. I ate very well there.

Last Monday I was slightly tired and not myself. I had a few bumps which I thought were pimples coming up on my forehead. Tuesday morning I woke up and my right eye was nearly swollen shut. I had scratched one of the bumps open and it was very red and angry looking. Not wanting to take a chance with my eye involved, my husband drove me to the doctor. It turns out I had shingles.

What I find interesting is that doctors always think of an immune compromised person when they think of shingles. Instead, I believe my immune system is better than it has been in about five years, if not longer. It makes me wonder sometimes if those acute illnesses aren’t our body expelling things. This is particularly true for those who have had a long term illness and they start to get better only to find that they have a nasty acute problem. Maybe the sickness itself is not the problem, but when our body does not respond. In those cases, we do get the chronic illness. Just a thought.
